Klyuchevskaya Shapeshifters

The Klyuchevskaya Shapeshifters are creatures sighted after the eruption of the Klyuchevskaya Sopka Volcano. The cause of the eruption was being studied by geologists and a reporter who were camped in the foothills. One man was left in the camp and started walking on his own to observe the area. As he explored, he found a strange thing that turned out to be a shape-changing creature that separated into multiple parts. One part approached the witness and took his appearance before turning into a sphere 60 cm in diameter. The witness was horrified, and his limbs went numb until he was calmed by the creature communicating telepathically. They explained they weren’t aliens since their species had lived on Earth for millennia. Since ancient times, they’ve evolved and changed to use less energy. They can move through the atmosphere with zero friction to conserve energy and survive by feeding on high temperatures, which is why most of their species live along the equator. There are many of them, and they can gather together to accomplish goals since they have a collective hive mind.
